Are your mornings fast and chaotic? Do you often find yourself avoiding breakfast, not to even mention personal time before starting your work assignments? In the past, that thought hasn't even occurred to me, but as my obligations started accumulating I realised just how precious it is to even have a tiny amount of time.  Think about it a little, isn't that the only time you have for yourself and if utilised well, the work day can get much easier and productive. Of course, it implies having discipline and hard work to change your daily habits but trust me in a long term it is a solid investment. Which is why I’m sharing 5 steps that keep me happy - and not grumpy in the morning. They even make me more productive before I take my first cup of Earl Grey in the morning.

1. Sleep Well (Finally) With Just a Bit of Planning

We are always bombarded by facts on the importance of sleep, but what happens if something occurs that keeps you up till late night hours? Or are you perhaps more of a night owl. Well in either case here is a solution to this problem and it is in a form of an app called Sleep Cycle. While you sleep you go through certain sleep state cycles. First one is referred as light sleep, followed by deep sleep commonly known as REM-sleep. Full sleep cycle occurs several times during each night, each lasting around 90 minutes. And that is where this app does its magic. It will wake you up during your lightest sleep state leading to you waking energised and prepared to go head to head with all that awaits you, no matter how many hours you actually slept!

2. Don't Skip Breakfast: Here’s How!

Speaking of obvious, you don't have to be Sherlock to figure it out, and no before you even ask coffee is not considered breakfast. Prepare it the night before so in the morning you can eat a nice meal in peace. Trust me it will change your life. Breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day for a reason because it increases productivity and better overall health. You can find many overnight recipes online like Chia pudding, and my favourite, Swiss oats. All you have to do is soak your oats and optionally add some chia seeds in yogurt and a splash of orange juice and keep it in the fridge. In the morning top it off with your favourite fruits or nuts. I prefer my with grated apple and sliced banana. If you're not a fan of oats, I have your back! For a more green option try to make-ahead frozen smoothie packs, and if you want to indulge yourself prepare easy overnight waffles. Enjoy!

3. You Don’t Need to Work Out Hard, but You Do Need to Boost Your Energy

There are many reasons why you should exercise in the morning. By working out, you just accomplished something and your day hasn't even started! It's great for your body and mind. And did you know that people who exercise regularly feel all around better about their work-life balance? Working out in the morning is somewhat of a trademark for most successful people in the world. If you aren't able to join the gym, all you need is yoga mat, because YouTube is full of short and effective videos which if done daily yield amazing results. I like to take at least 20 minutes of my morning to do some pilates by following monthly workout calendar that is free. You can check it here!

4. Get Yourself Organized Before You Go to Bed

Do you sometimes experience a cluster of ideas inside your head right before you go to sleep? Well, the best thing that you can do is to write them down, like a to-do list, categorizing them by priority. In the morning, you will have a clear picture of what you need to accomplish that day. If nothing else it will help you stay organised and to visualise your daily workflow. Plus doesn't it feel nice crossing something off your to-do list and thus enabling you to experience further motivation? For more professional tasks, I highly recommend Asana, a web application that keeps tracking work for you. This way you can separate your business tasks from private ones. I hope you will see a lot of magical unicorns!

5. Take a Little Me Time… In the Morning!

Drink your favourite tea while reading a book, write down things that you are thankful for or just sit down and reflect on life. Recently, I started listening podcasts that made me even more motivated and excited for the day. Think about it as your 15 minutes to disconnect. It will make a huge difference in your overall fulfillment. You will feel energized because you got your me time in the beginning of the day and no matter what happens through, you had a really awesome start.

Of course, there will be mornings that you just want to stay longer in bed and hit that snooze button. That is perfectly fine, it's normal not to have motivation every single morning. We all have to work on ourselves, not letting our emotions interfere. Your breakfast must become as common as brushing your teeth, exercising as drinking coffee. Give yourself some time and effort and it will become part of your habits and an amazing one. Share with us your morning routine and tips! We would like to know what motivates you to get up every single morning.
